the faa application process

STEP ONE: The FAA's MedXPress Online Application

BEFORE  your visit to Dr. Sherman,  you must complete your Application for Medical Certification at the FAA's MedXpress website.  It is very easy to navigate, but we cannot stress the importance of answering all questions completely and truthfully - this is the best way to obtain and maintain your FAA certification!

STEP TWO: Print out Application and Confirmation Number

PLEASE NOTE: YOU CANNOT FILL OUT THE APPLICATION IN THE OFFICE - IT MUST BE COMPLETED ONLINE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE.

Be sure to print out and bring a copy of your completed FAA Application for Airman Medical Certificate.   You will be able to print this out after you finish the online process, and it's a great idea to keep a copy of it for your personal files, so you can refer to it for your next application.  It is also very important that you copy the "confirmation number" that the MedXPress site will give you after you hit the SUBMIT button - this allows Dr. Sherman to quickly access your file and begin your examination.  Additionally, please bring your currrent/expired FAA Medical Certificate if you have one.

So, to review........:

  • GO TO THE FAA MedXPress website
  • If you have not previously registered, request a password and resister for the site.
  • Complete the Application (FAA Form 8500) Online
  • Check for "validation errors" in the application
  • Hit the SUBMIT button
  • Click on EXAM SUMMARY and PRINT application with CONFIRMATION #

STEP THREE: Health Conditions or Medications

Many applicants have various medical conditions they live with, and most remain medically certifiable.  And the FAA needs to have a clear picture of your health and how it may impact your safety as a pilot.  The best way to a clear path to certification is to provide Dr. Sherman with accurate information, including documentation of any medical condition you may have and what medications you are taking.  To facilitate your exam, please email or call Dr Sherman  to find out exactly what documentation you will need to bring:     flightdoc.us@gmail.com or 386-322-9030
